Makeup Trial Prep

Updated: Jul 11

For your makeup trial all you need to do is bring along some inspiration pictures/screenshots of looks you like. I find red carpet images are best as they are generally less edited/filtered than social media images. These along with images of yourself at times when you have liked your own make-up are perfect.

It is always good to have made a start on your skincare routine a couple of months before your trial as skin prep is key. This will not only give you a head start on your skin prep for your wedding day but also a much better result at your trial as your makeup will sit so much better on well prepped & hydrated skin.

The better condition your skin is, the better your makeup will look and wear on the day.

SKIN CARE

It is perfectly fine to use all your regular skincare before your trial, I know it can be hard to leave the house without wearing any makeup but if possible please do arrive makeup-free and if not just try to keep it light and minimal makeup so I can quickly cleanse your skin and start fresh.

PREP

The night before gently exfoliate your skin so that its nice and smooth. Something nice and gentle like an AHA cleanser or Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant to smooth & polish the skin.

Then go in with your regular moisturiser or a hydration mask - again something really gentle -

I love The Miracle Mask from Ella&Jo its magic, plumps, hydrates and refreshes your skin leaving you with gorgeous glow. Also if you are a sheet mask fan these are perfect too!

**If you have sensitive skin exfoliate the previous evening and do a hydration mask the night before the trial, so you are not overloading the skin in the one night.

TAN

If you plan on wearing tan on your wedding day, I would recommend wearing some tan for your trial too as it can really change how your makeup looks and feels, as tan will change how all tones of blush, lipstick etc look on the skin. This doesn't mean you have to get a spray tan before your trial just wearing a tinted moisturiser on your upper body or an instant tan is perfect to give you an idea.

BROWS

Brows make a huge difference to your look, they frame our face, they have the ability to lift and open our eyes and give us a more clean & youthful look.

I love a natural brow so no need to go mad or panic and book in for a total reshape. Just a little tidy before your trial and your all set.

On that note.. if you are planning on having any brow treatments ( or facial waxing, or threading etc) do it at least a week prior to your trial or wedding day as you want all residue of the brow tint to have left the skin. Also makeup does not sit well freshly waxed/threaded skin, as it leaves the skin is really shiny makeup kind of slips off and can appear really patchy which is not ideal at all.

Other considerations...

It can also help if you wear a top in light/neutral colour or similar to the shade you will be wearing on the day as it will give you a better idea of the overall look as sometimes the colour of your clothes can clash with makeup or reflect on to the skin.

Lastly, if you have a lipstick you love or think you would like to wear do bring it along!

**Don't forget there's no pressure, if you prefer not to have a makeup trial or our schedules don't match up its okay. We can have a chat before your day to discuss likes and dislikes, and again do send on some inspiration pictures along with one or two of yourself so I have an idea of your style.**
